Festival Greetings! May this festival season usher happiness and prosperity for you and for your family members.

As we celebrate our festivals; there are several not so fortunate people for whom even a square meal is a tall order. One such unfortunate, disadvantaged group are the abandoned and old widows of Brindavan. For these widows; even basic sustenance and shelter are a tall order. In moments of our celebration; let's try reaching out to the widows of Brindavan by rekindling in them a desire to live.
There are more than 8,000 abandoned widows in Brindavan and adjoining towns of the Brig region--"karma-bhoomi" of Krishna. For these widows, Brindvan is their ultimate destination after their widowhood. They are not only victims of age-old stigma associated with widowhood; but equally traumatized by their kith and kin who do not wish to shoulder any responsibility in their hour of crisis.
Thrown out of their homes and hearth; their hearts are full of sorrow. Their physical condition is pitiable. They want to spend remainder of their lives at the feet of Krishna. Renderhig 'Krishna bhajans" at few ashrams established over the years and in return getting handful of food grains and fifty paisa each; are only sustenance for most widows. A large number of them beg in the streets of Brindavan, Mathura, Gokul and other religious towns of Brij. Local administration is totally oblivious of their plight and misery. Few religious institutions have tried helping them by constructing shelters and ashrams; yet all of this is very little for the burgeoning population of the widows for whom Brindavan remains a dumping ground.

The incapacitated widows. Symbolic of their devotion "chandan" (sandal paste) on their foreheads; our work is a modest effort to bring "Dhoop" (sunshine) in their lives.

We have already adopted 150 aged widows using our own resources and NOW we urge your help in adopting more widows. Your tax-free donation can help rebuild their lives apart from rekindling in them a desire to live. For as little as Rs. 850/- per month you can help  us adopt a widow by

guaranteeing her two square meals a day apart from milk and basic health care facility.
We do not believe in building any more shelters nor "ashrams" since there enough of them. We however work with the existing institutions depending on the needs of the using our own resources and NOW we urge your help in adopting more widows. Your

We do not believe in building any more shelters nor "ashrams" since there enough of them. We however work with the existing institutions depending on the needs of the

widows and extent of destitution. In these shelters; we provide food, nutrition that the Widows badly lack and basic healthcare facilities. Our target is to adopt more than 2,000 widows by the next year for which we need your help.
At the second level , we try to develop income generation skills of healthier and younger widows so that they gradually become financially independent. We are also working actively with the Govt. for ensuring implementation of their programs targeted towards the widows. Sadly the Govt. agencies are very slow and lethargic in responding to a pressing need for survival and rehabilitation.
So let us help rehabilitate Brindavan widows and try to bring sunshine in their lives. Let us tell these helpless, miserable humans they are not alone in their abandonment . Let us support their will to live by a small sacrificial donation. This is the best gift we can give to anyone this festival season!
Thanking you and looking forward to your positive response.

Yours sincerely,

Sarita Sharma

Trustee.
