THE MIGHTY FIVE: TEJI ANAND, USHA PRATAP SINGH, DOLLY ANAND, BRINDA
SYALI AND RAMINDER SINGH
"We collectively decided that this is what we wanted to do. We set out areas of competence and responsibility. So we had our little committee ready even before we embarked on starting the Ghar." "Weve
been quite blessed with our girls. Sure there are little sibling disagreements, Teji Anand is the retired school principal of the well known Guru Nanak Public School in New Delhi, an institution she helped found and later headed for 18 years. She started as a Headmistress of the junior section of the prestigious Daly College, Indore, where the children of the old and now defunct Indian royalty studied. Usha Pratap Singh is the daughter of a Professor of English at the Punjab University. She has had a distinguished career in business and has always counted pursuit of knowledge as among her passions. Such passion led her to enroll and successfully complete a Diploma course in German language along with her husband - - where the other students were younger than their own children! Dolly Anand has been involved with the voluntary sector for many years. She has been a leading volunteer with the National Association for the Blind at New Delhi and has been involved in many other philanthropic and charitable activities. Brinda Syali is a retired senior school teacher whose career followed her husband's, as he spent time on various postings as a senior civil servant, around the country. Her last assignment was at the Modern School, New Delhi, from where she retired as the Senior Mistress. Raminder Singh is also a retired senior teacher. She too followed her naval officer husband, around both India and the world. Amongst her hobbies has been the caring for and rearing exotic bird species and she played 'mother' to a talking macaw which mimicked her husband and her both, with often amusing repercussions!
