Datamation Foundation actively champions deployment of innovative ICT tools and capacity building solutions for vocational skills enhancement targeted towards sustainable livelihoods for the socially and economically disadvantaged women and youth most vulnerable to poverty and exploitation. Besides ensuring creation of mass-scale employment generation in the organized sector of the economy;, the Foundation has been working actively towards creating livelihoods for the women and youth engaged in the vast, unregulated and hazardous informal sector of the economy. ICT Center- Seelampur As part of the organizational philosophy, the Foundation has been successful in putting ICTs in the hands of the women of the predominantly minority ghetto of Seelampur-Zaffarabad in North East Delhi. The project is one of select chosen South-Asian UNESCO ICT for Poverty Reduction (ictPR) sites. The project aims at training Muslim women in the application of ICTs for their income and vocational skills enhancement. The project envisions assessing social and economic impact of ICTs in improving the quality of their lives. The infoDev Lucknow Kanpur Project The Foundation’s tryst in the highly complex informal sector of the economy continues in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow and Kanpur cities. infoDev, a global grant program managed by the World Bank to promote innovative projects on the use of information and communication technologies, intends helping the ‘chikan’ embroidery weavers of Lucknow and women engaged in informal, petty businesses in Kanpur. The project deploys hand-held computers, computer-aided design (CAD) based embroidery technology, multi-media CDs over the cable network, narrow-cast transmission of content and local community cable internet. The market linkages between the producers and the buyers are facilitated extensively by Datamation Foundation by holding buyer-producer meets, exhibitions, sampling, cataloging, ICT enabled internet marketing, fulfillment and quality control.
